In this course, students will learn twenty of the most common phrasal verbs in American English, their unique meaning, how to respond to them when others say them, and when to use them in their own conversations. By the end of the class, students will have a working knowledge of these phrasal verbs that will allow them to feel more confident when listening and speaking to others.

Having taught Adult English Language learners for close to fifteen years, I have seen and heard students become extremely frustrated with American English expressions conveyed through phrasal verbs. These expressions cause many non-native English speakers to feel self-conscious when speaking, listening, and communicating with others. My goal is to help students gain understanding, confidence, and practice so that they can engage in conversations within their communities, at their places of work, and in all aspects of their lives.
